Belly Wrap

Can I wear a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap while pregnant?

No, this product is not to be worn at any stage during your pregnancy. The elasticised compression of the specially tailored BellyCo postnatal belly wrap has been specifically designed for use postpartum or after pregnancy.

How does using a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap assist in recovery after a caesarean (c-section)?

For women who have had a caesarean, wearing a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap may accelerate the recovery process by allowing greater mobility, increasing blood circulation around the surgical area and supporting the abdominal tissues while they heal. Firm pressure on the belly has been shown to diminish swelling, decrease associated incision pain and relieve uncomfortable pulling sensations.

The constant and reassuring support of a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap will help minimise discomfort in the event of any sudden movement, sneezing or coughing.

A caesarean is major abdominal surgery, for this reason we recommend that you consult with your midwife or doctor prior to use.

What is diastasis recti and how does using a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap help?

Diastasis Recti is a common condition affecting approximately 15% of postpartum women.

The condition is seen as a stretching and separation into right and left halves of the rectus abdominus muscle caused by the growing uterus during pregnancy. Normally, the two sides of the muscle are joined at the body midline.

In postpartum women, the defect is seen when the abdominus recti muscles do not fully knit together after pregnancy, leaving a rather unsightly bulge of the stomach. This condition comes in varying degrees, from slight tearing to a full separation, which can give rise to herniation. A BellyCo postnatal belly wrap covers the lower abdomen which can provide valuable relief by containing and supporting the abdomen while taking the strain off the abdominal layers and allow them to heal without stress.

The BellyCo postnatal belly wrap can also assist after pregnancy recovery exercises by helping encourage your muscles back together and to also act as a reminder to actively pull your belly back in toward your spine to engage your transverse abdominis.

This condition can be helped by strengthening the transverse abdominal muscle, with specially targeted exercises. We suggest that you consult with your midwife or doctor for more information.

How does using a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap help reduce stretch marks?

Stretch marks are caused when the skin is pulled by rapid growth or stretching, resulting in tiny tears in the layers below the skins surface.

The loose excess skin of the postpartum belly can result in additional stretch marks due to the lack of abdomen support pulling and stretching the skin further.

The BellyCo postnatal belly wrap may offer support of this loose skin, counteracting stress and tension on the skin thereby minimising the development of additional stretch marks in the postpartum period.

When should I start wearing a BellyCo postnatal belly wrap?

Depending on when you feel comfortable, you can start wearing the BellyCo postnatal belly wrap as soon as 24 hours after baby is born, even after a caesarean.

A postnatal belly can feel like jelly. It is a very secure and comforting feeling to have the loose postpartum belly supported once you begin caring for your new born baby.
